First Be Sure to Get Rid of Moisture Problems
When it comes to concrete basement floor finishing, the very first thing you will need to do is to get rid of any moisture problems in the basement. If there is a moisture problem, more than likely it is going to ruin any type of flooring that you put down. Some basements, especially older ones, get cracks in the floor that allow moisture to seep in. You will need to get rid of this problem before you ever get started on the flooring. Consider using some type of sealant on the floor to seal those cracks or spray on a coat of waterproofing paint before you get started.

Paint the Floor

If you are not wanting to spend a great deal of money but you want something more than just plain concrete, painting the floor is a great idea. There are a variety of colors to choose from, so you should be able to choose a color that will go along great with the rest of the room. Painting is also very easy to do, and in just an afternoon you should be able to have the entire basement floor painted.

Considering Sponging to Give a Granite Look
If you want a bit more from your painted look, you may want to consider doing some sponging on the floor. Just using a sponge on your painted floor can actually give it the appearance of being granite flooring. While granite flooring is quite expensive, it won’t cost much at all to sponge the floor to get the same look. Sure, it will take a bit of work on your knees, but in the end it will look great.

Consider a Sub Floor if You Want Carpet
When it comes to concrete basement floor finishing, some people want to go for carpet. If this is what you plan on doing, you may want to consider installing a sub floor before laying the carpet down. There are several ways that you can add a nice sub floor before laying your carpet. You may want to lay Polystyrene insulation down with plywood on top of it, or there are other newer products such as wafer board that has a plastic or rubber layer attached to it. This sub floor will help to keep your carpet off of the cold, concrete floor.
